Actress and Vegan Taste Maker Darbi Gwynn shares with Dr. Rob Berberian her passion behind her vegan lifestyle and her fitness and beauty secrets!!
What inspired you to be vegan?
What inspired me to be vegan was a process. My mother was always into health and holistic approaches to life. She fed us a veg heavy diet with no sodas or candy. She became a vegan herself and continued to cut out any unnecessary “food” from her diet. She made the shift from emotional eating to nutritional eating long ago. Her steps towards health shaped a lot of my choices and attitudes towards food. I eventually educated myself more and more over the years about health, the mistreatment of animals and the environmental ramifications. I no longer wear or purchase products made from animals or that test on animals.
Favorite vegan cheat food?
My favorite vegan cheat food is so hard to choose!!! 10 years ago there wasn’t nearly the variety there is today! We have pizza, fried faux chix and waffles, ice cream and donuts! Everything non-vegans eat we have now too! But if I have to pick one thing I’ll say the deep dish vegan pizza from Masa of Echo Park is what dreams are made of.
You’re in great shape! What’s your fitness regimen?
My fitness regimen is a variety of activities. I’m predominantly a runner and enjoy weight lifting and calisthenics.
What advice can you give someone who is considering making the transition to go vegan?
The advice I’d give to anyone making the transition to go vegan is enjoy the discovery process of trying new things and not beat yourself up for slips. It’s progress not perfection. The longer one adopts a new behavior, the easier it becomes to live that new behavior.
Three things you can’t live without?!
The three things I can’t live without are the ability to exercise, the ability to learn and my self care maintenance which includes Secret in-a-Tube. Because hey, who doesn’t wanna have nice healthy skin?!
